about

Raster Coma is the second in a series of releases focusing on 90's demo scene, gaming, and rave culture. I attended various demo parties throughout the 90's, of which The Party (held in Denmark in 1995) was a particular highlight. Its somewhat cacophonous mixture of underground techno, pixel art, and visual effects, served on hundreds of CRT screens and speakers gave my 16 year old brain a sensoric overload unlike anything I'd encountered up until that point. Experiences like these, along with memories of waking up early in the weekends to do pixel art, tracker music, and playing games on our Atari ST machine, form the aesthetic foundations of my Raster releases.

Upland Bergen, Norway

Upland's sound gradually evolved from IDM into a distinctive mix of metal, breakbeat and musique concrète over the course of 3 albums released on Ulver frontman Kristoffer Rygg's eclectic Jester Records label.

More recently he's been revisiting his formative years in and around the demoscene with Raster Dreams (2019) and Raster Coma (2020), culminating in the release of Raster Euchronia (2023).
